Museum Research Project

Child Soldier Awareness Campaign

Objective:

  • Students will research topics surrounding child soldiers as they read Beah's memoir A Long Way Gone. Students will then create an ad campaign to spread awareness of the topic.

Components:

Research Paper: Completed individually. Minimum of 2 sources, parenthetical documentation, and Works Cited page. See outline for further instructions.

Two PowerPoint Slides: Completed with a partner-SAVE AS A PDF
   A) The 1st slide: E-poster connected child soldier topic- Your E-poster should contain an image from a copyright-friendly site. This image should take up    the entire slide. In addition, your E-poster should contain text to bring awareness to your topic in a powerful and meaningful manner.
   B) The 2nd slide: Analysis of your choices- The next slide needs to include a paragraph description of the choices made in the ad. Clearly defend your    choice of image and text and what you hope your audience will gain by viewing the E-poster.

Turnitin.com Upload research paper (including your Works Cited Page) & PowerPoint slides to Turnitin.com to check for plagiarism.

Sharing with an Audience: Each pair will present the E-poster to receive feedback/reactions from peers.

Reflections/Evaluations: Each person will fill out a reflection/ evaluation sheet on the last day of the project. *Remember to reflect not only on the process as a whole, but also on your target audiences’ reactions to your E-poster. What would you have done differently? What went well? The average you receive from your peer will impact your grade.
