Independent Research Activity: Dehumanization Article

Overview: In this assignment, you are to read at least two articles from the Lib Guide that pertain to the characteristics of our current theme “Dehumanization”. After you read your chosen articles, you are to create a newspaper article based off the articles you chose. You will need to include at least two quotes from each article you read to reference in your newspaper. The goal of this assignment is for you to further understand the characteristics of dehumanization by exploring current issues of dehumanization around the world, and to develop critical thinking skills by relating real events to our own interpretation of dehumanization.


  • Read 2 articles from the Lib Guide

  • Create a newspaper article of your own based off the information you read in the 2 articles you chose and how they relate to dehumanization characteristics

  • Newspaper must include the following: Headline, Article, Picture, and Editor’s note. Font should be readable, but it can be one of your choice or it can be handwritten.

  • Headline: must be big and bold- like a newspaper headline and it must capture the theme of your article.

  • Article: The article must be at least 2 paragraphs, in first person (as if you are reporting), free of grammatical and punctuation errors. Must include 2 direct quotes from each article you read. **Does not need to be in Schaffer Method.

  • Picture: The picture needs to represent the theme of your article. This can be one you found online or it can be one you create.

  • Editor’s note: This is your reflection on what you read in the 2 articles. You need to talk about what you learned from the articles, how this made you feel, what surprised you about that information, etc… This must be at least a paragraph and it does not have to be written in Schaffer Method. It must be in first person.
